Lou and Ash

The other night, Lina and I went out.  We don't go out as often as we used to, so it was fun having another girl's night out.  Of course Lou ran into another one of her flavors-of-the-week/month etc, but I'll leave his pictures out of it!

(we started the night off at the rib cookoff)
(Thanks Lina... picture ruiner!)
(We ran into Beth!  My old roomie in Theta!!)
(Then we ran into Lainey...)
(And No-Nee!)

Fun night with the best friend.

I wish you enough...

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how  gray the day may appear.

I   wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting..

I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.

I wish you  enough  gain to satisfy your wanting.

I  wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

Pho

Pho has become my new favorite addiction!  Like I-have-to-limit-myself-to-once-a-week addiction.  I LOVE IT!  It's fairly healthy for you as well.  The Pho I go to is the one in Reno by Target.  So far it is my favorite Pho.  Their meat isn't as greasy as some other places, and they have wonderful customer service.  Plus, everything is consistent every time I go.

I usually order the #26, but my new favorite is the #31 which is Bun Ga Nuong (Grilled Chicken over Vermicelli Noodles).  SO GOOD!  It's my absolute favorite.  Aaron experiments with the menu and tries new things.  Not me.  He has had the fried rice (with brown rice instead of white) which is DELICIOUS!

Just thought I would add a little post about my favorite addiction :-) You can access their website by clickin here.

If I could make this dish myself, I'd save a ton of money.  I'll try learning one day :-)

Balloon Races

Aaron had never been to the Balloon Races before, so I made it a point to go this year :-)  Luckily waking up at 4am is sleeping in for him!

The Reno Balloon Races are beautiful, and something everyone should see at least once in my opinion!

Colorado

Aaron and I recently took a trip to Colorado (8/27/2010-8/31/2010).  He was testing for the Colorado State Troopers, so we decided to make it an extended weekend and get some rock climbing in (neither of us had been to Colorado before).

I must say Colorado is WONDERFUL!  If there's any place I'd like my boyfriend to move to and reside in, Colorado would be top on my list.  Visiting would cost an arm and a leg for flights every time, but it was a wonderful place.  If I were loaded with cash-money I would pack my bags and go to school in Boulder!

Saturday - Flatirons
We climbed both Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday we did the Flatirons (and I'm horrible because I totally forgot which Flatiron we did, lower?  Upper?  Second?  Shoot...).

It was a wonderful route and very easy.  It was listed as a classic route that everyone should try while climbing he flatirons.  There wasn't too much required as far as technical skill, but that doesn't mean I wasn't totally pooped afterward.  It's draining being on a massive rock while the temperatures outside are enough to make you sweat glisten through the cute little pink cotton tank top.  Just sayin...

Sunday (part 1) - Bastille Crack
Sunday we went to Eldorado Canyon to do some more classic rock climbing.  Aaron was hankering to do the Bastille Crack which is only a 5.7 but the problem is it's CRACK!  I had surgery in high school on my right foot, and my foot has never quite been the same.  Not to mention I just have very sensitive feet.  So crack is always out of the question for me.  It's far too painful.  It's incredibly scary (for me), I don't feel secure.  However, after waiting for 2 parties to ascend the Bastille Crack ahead of us, I managed to watch a girl (REDHEAD) climb the Bastille Crack with some ease, and some struggle, but overall she climbed it.  Naturally, being stubborn and competitive, I figured if she did it then I could do it as well.

(Aaron on the crux)
(It's a lot harder than it looks!)
(Me on crack!!)

The problem with this wall was that the rock was incredibly slippery!  When you're rock climbing, you depend on your feet 100% especially if the hand holds are minimal.  So when your feet consistently slip from underneath you, you begin to lose confidence.  This route (for me) was incredibly terrifying because the rock just didn't grip well, so I really had to focus on hand holds and feet placement.

Sunday (part 2) - Wind Ridge

After we finished the Bastille Crack first pitch I felt uneasy about continuing on another wall for a multipitch route.  I wasn't feeling confident.  I used more effort than needed to accomplish my first crack.  I was tired.  However I was excited to do the Wind Ridge route because I picked it out (and I like to believe all of MY ideas are the best ideas).  The Wind Ridge was rated a 4 star 5.6.  Upon completing all 3 pitches, we agreed the crux was more of a 5.8+.  PAT ON THE BACK!

The crux of the route was most definitely not a 5.6.  It was a roof with very few handholds!!  When we got back into Reno, Aaron researched comments on the route and most everyone agrees it's a 5.8 crux.  Good thing I could handle it, I'd be worried for someone who couldn't pull a 5.8 roof!  Aaron was too funny when he was trying to manhandle the roof.  He got caught in an awkward position with rock right between his legs.
Sunday was a glorious day for me :-)

Golden/Boulder/Denver
The rest of the time in Colorado we spent being tourists and seeing things in the town.  I made it a point to visit the Theta house in Boulder!!

Boulder was a wonderful city.  It was an adorable little college town and I had so much fun just walking around and looking at all of the shops and restaurants.   I loved it there!

We also visited Golden for a brief afternoon while killing time.  I loved Golden!  The downtown area was clean and alive.  There is a river/creek that runs through the city where everyone swims or floats.  HOW FUN!  I couldn't believe how many people were swimming, so I felt the water (to compare to Truckee) and it was DECENT!  Not nearly as cold, it made me wish I had a bikini on so I could jump in too.
(Aaron taking a picture of me taking a picture of 2 rainbows)

We also hung out in Denver for a brief afternoon so that we could experience the city.  We went to the 16th Street Mall which reminded me a lot of Union Square in San Francisco.  One thing I have noticed about Colorado is there are a TON of places to eat!  And 90% of them seem to be little local places (they could be chains, but I'd never heard of them before...).  So the 16th Street Mall was more of a 16th Street food Court, in my opinion.  Out of all of the places we could choose from, we decided to eat pizza for dinner!  We went to a little hole in the wall pizza joint (Two Fisted Marios... or something along those lines) and the pizza was SO YUMMY!

(Yup, that's really Aaron eating a PIZZA)

Overall the trip was wonderful and we both had a great time.  I really loved Colorado, there wasn't enough time to do everything we wanted so I am excited to possibly have the opportunity to go back again if anything progresses with the State Trooper option!!

I got it!

I GOT THE JOB!!

...And celebrated with my favorite Bolivian Lou last night :-)  It's a beautiful day, it's a 3-day weekend, and it looks promising ahead.

I will now be an Information Security Analyst at Renown!!!  I couldn't be more happy.  It took 4 interviews, but at the end of the process I finally got the job.  I can't believe it!

Sickly

I've caught it!  That infectuous disease that must be going around my entire family.  The one where a cough sounds like an organ malfunction.  The same one that makes you sound like a man when you're actually a tiny little girl with a high pitched voice.  The one that just happens to come right before an interview.

Yup.  That's the one I've managed to catch.

Behind

I just got back from my wonderful weekend in Colorado with the boyfriend!  So I am a bit behind on bloggys.  I have so many things changing in my life right now, some I can post about and some I would like to keep secret until I can disclose further information.  With school starting and my life taking a new direction, it has been difficult finding some time to update my bloggy... but updates will be coming soon :-)

Fruit Leather

I adore fruit leather.  It saves me while hiking or climbing, and they're just super tasty!  I buy them from Winco for $.33, which so far proves to be the cheapest price I have found (with a good variety as well!).

Education vs. Experience

Before class, I was talking with Lina about work vs MBA/graduate school.  It seems almost as though it is one or the other.  Here are the options:

  • Work in a job that will further your career and be a hands-on learning experience
  • Go to school full time and get your MBA by the time you’re 25
  • Do both – Work FT, then take a night class here and there and get your MBA by the time you’re 32

Why do we go to school?  To get a better job!  What happens if you have “the job” though?  So we started talking about Education vs Experience, and which is more valuable to a potential new employer.  Hands down, I think experience with suitable educational background is most valuable.  So do you quit your job to get your MBA, when everyone else who is getting their MBA wants your job?  It’s a toughy.  School is priority.  School comes first.  But if you have the opportunity to have a job due to prior education and work experience background, ISN’T THAT THE POINT??  Isn’t the end result supposed to be A JOB?  So if we’re satisfied with our current job, why do we kill ourselves to continue to go to school to get an education to land the job we already have?

Then Lina brings up a good point:
If everyone is getting their MBA due to a lack of job availability right now, isn’t the new standard going to be “Masters Degree” instead of “Bachelor’s Degree” ??  THEN where does experience play a role… I have years of experience and no Masters, whereas someone else may have a Masters with zero years of experience.

It’s a wonderful debate, and at the end of our conversation I don’t think either of us left with a “right” answer, or even an answer that made most sense.  We just danced in circles around the topic for a half an hour with no ending conclusion.

Okay, the end.

Back to School!

Time to go back to school.  I'm already a little overwhelmed with my school schedule.  It seems nice and dandy, but at the end of the night when is there time to shower even?!  Of course I could shower in the morning, but when I get out of class at 10pm and start work at 7am, my personal hygiene is my last concern :-)  I definitely need to work on organizing my time in the most efficient way possible.

Tuesday

Swollen Face

I know the picture isn't flattering, but I don't care!  I woke up this morning with my cheek extremely swollen :-(  Turns out, I have an infection so I'll be in the doctor's office first thing tomorrow morning to get this sucker drained.

Sucks :-(

Teefer Update

This is miserable. I ended up getting dry socket, so they stuffed my tooth-hole with the oil-of-clove-tastes-horrible thing that totally worked!

I got my stitches out yesterday, and I'm not sure if it's me being paranoid or not but it hurts again :-( Just my left one... my right is totally fine. I ate a bite of spinach dip yesterday and spent foreverrrr cleaning my tooth-hole with the syringe and I either really irritated it, I'm being paranoid, or I still have dry socket.

This blows. I'm such a baby!! It doesn't help that every time I even start to syringe out my tooth-hole I get nauseous and freaked out. I point and aim and HOPE I'm getting the right area.

YUCK!!!

Mine baby Mine!

Me and TSwift
Taylor Swift released her new single!!!!  It's called "Mine" and I LOVE IT!!!  It's a wonderful song, and it makes me so excited for her new album!!  She has already shot the video, so I'm just anticipating it's debut :-)

Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

You were in college, working part-time, waiting tables
Left a small town and never looked back
I was a flight risk, afraid of fallin'
Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts

I say, "Can you believe it?"
As we're lyin' on the couch
The moment, I can see it
Yes, yes, I can see it now

Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
You put your arm around me for the fist time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
You learn my secrets and figure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes

But we got bills to pay
We got nothin' figured out
When it was hard to take
Yes, yes

This is what I thought about:

Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
You put your arm around me for the fist time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

Do you remember all the city lights on the water?
You saw me start to believe for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

Oh, oh, oh, oh

And I remember that fight, two-thirty AM
You said everything was slipping right out of our hands
I ran out, crying, and you followed me out into the street

Braced myself for the goodbye, cause that's all I've ever known
Then, you took me by surprise
You said, "I'll never leave you alone."

You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water.
And every time I look at you, it's like the first time.
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter.
She is the best thing that's ever been mine."

You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

Do you believe it?
We're gonna make it now
And I can see it

I can see it now

Wisdom Teefers

On Thursday, I got the dreadful wisdom taken out of my teeth.  Four of my teeth are now less wise. And my cheeks are more poofy.

(Day #1:  I had my boyfriend and puppy keeping me company.)

Surprisingly, it hurts a lot more than I thought it would (for a lot longer as well). I thought I'd be out for all day Thursday, and feeling better by the end of Friday in time for a fun Saturday and Sunday. Nopers.

I'm still dependent on Percocet. I'm still using the funny looking sock wrapped around my face. My cheeks are slightly bruised. And I look like I'm smuggling peanuts in my mouth. I can't open my mouth very wide. All I want is a taco or meaty spaghetti. And I want my mouth to stop bleeding every time I eat anything other than applesauce.

(Day #2:  Taking another nap with my puppy, b/c sleeping is all I seem to be able to do)

But either way, I am glad to have finally gotten my wisdom teefers out! Hopefully I will be off of the percocet soon!! And hopefully I'll get to eat something YUMMY! But for now, I am stuck with applesauce and a depleted bank account.

Sugarland Concert

I have this sort of "luck" sometimes when it comes to winning things.  One of my recent winnings was 5th row SUGARLAND concert tickets up at Harvey's Lake Tahoe.

A few years ago, I had 5th row Tickets to see Sugarland as well.  I was bailed on by my date at the last minute (because he "forgot" to get the night off work) so I asked another girlfriend of mine to go.  She bailed on me a couple of hours before the show.  So I ran to Lina (we were all living in the sorority at the time) and beggggggggged for her to come with me.  Pleeeeeeeease!  1st my date bails, then a friend bails, I can't have my best friend bail.

1 problem - My little bolivian friend doesn't like country.  BUT she willingly said she'd come with me, threw on an outfit and off we were to dance away at the Sugarland concert.  This is when she fell in love with Sugarland :-)  Thanks Lina!

(This is how close we were!)

Anywho, since she ended up really liking Sugarland, I asked her to come with me again.  Hey, maybe we'll have to make 5th row Sugarland concerts a regular thing?

Anyhow, the show was spectacular.  Jennifer Nettles has such a beautful voice and is filled with talent.  I like to think she should be Taylor Swift's mamma because she puts on an amazing performance and has so much PASSION.

A Night in the Country

This past weekend was the country music festival called A Night in the Country (Website) in Yerington, NV.  The performing artists this year were: Diamond Rio, Terri Clark, Chuck Wicks, and Blake Shelton (headliner).  To sum it all up, it's camping + country concerts + booze + friends + cowboy boots.  it doesn't get better than that :-)

We camped with the same people we camped with last year... I like to refer to it as "Brett and co."  We were in TENT CITY and we were part of the minority camping in tents.  The lucky ones had RVs = Air Conditioned Luxury.  There were probably close to 10 tents in our group, ours held 5 girls (Me, Kimmy, Leslie, Marie, and Ryann).

Last year, we all arrived with our country boots, an ice chest, and a tent.  So this year we came a little more prepared with an EASY UP for the crazy July heat.  Luckily we had 4 Easy Ups total so we had plenty of shade.

At the end of the night, Kimmy and I made friends with the guys at the KBUL tent trying to get free stuff.  Yes, we were those girls.  BUT we walked away with free tickets to the Knitting Factory show, some CD's, chapstick, and most importantly: MEET AND GREETS!!  Unfortunately, we missed the memo that we were supposed to arrive before 5pm to receive our meet and greets so we forfeited them.  Sad mittens, I know.

I also ran into my favorite ginger, it was so glad to get my dance on with her :-)  One of the booths this year had STRAWBERRY margaritas and they were amazing!  So delicious, probably the best selling item all night (at least according to my wallet).

The next day we went to the pool in Yerington.  The heat is unbearable so it's the best bet there is because we can get ready in the bathrooms before the show.  A lot of the kids our age go to the river and get trashed, but we were ready for some relaxing pool time with children and old men.  After we got ready we prepared for Night #2!  We again put on our dancing boots.

After the concert, Marie and I wandered around the camps for a bit.  I wish I would have gotten a picture because it's hard to describe the campsite area.  Basically, it's rows and rows of RVs and tents, and at night time it's one massive party!  You walk around the area, run into old friends, and conveniently make new friends.  It's a ton of fun!  This isn't something I would typically do... I've always stayed away from the party scene, but there's something so summer-y and country about camping in a field with country music blaring everywhere!!

So the second night Marie, Brett, and I were walking around and dancing at one of the campsites (there were probably 50 people dancing there) and Marie yells "I lost my phone!!"  So here we are, the three of us looking for her phone in a massive field of DUST with too many people around.  I'm creepily feeling around everyone's dancing feet... I think everyone was thinking I was crazy.  I even got one boy to lend me his massive mag-light so I could at least SEE something.  We checked the port-a-potty, we checked the truck, we checked everywhere and Marie finally found her phone!! .... in her pocket.  We took a photo for giggles.
Oh, hello phone.

That was my wonderful weekend in Yerington, NV :-)

P.S. I lost my ID :-(  If anyone finds an ID of a little redhead named Ashley Cray, I'd like it back please ok thanks.

Today is my Friday

Granny's service last night was wonderful.  I met MANY Theta sisters from several generations.  I met 3 past Presidents as well.  It was nice to see so many people show up for her "party."  My mom did a wonderful job of planning, and now we have Lemon Picata Chicken leftovers to feed us for the next few months.

I have tomorrow off of work because I am going to A NIGHT IN THE COUNTRY!  It's one of the best times I've ever had.  I get to put on my cowboy boots and dance the night away with wonderful friends.  Who could ask for more?  I will be posting several photos as soon as the weekend is over!

No new news on the house.  I am still waiting for someone to turn on the water so I can start watering my (dead) lawn.  Everything in the house was "winterized" and I don't know the first thing about summer-izing it.  I want to get my lawn lush and beautiful!

Now time to go start packing for my exciting weekend filled with cowboy boots, country music, camping, and wonderful friends!

Too Open?

It's no secret, I'd tell my life to a stranger if he'd take the time to listen.

I talk too much sometimes, and reveal too much information, but now I'm wondering if it's a bad thing or not.  I have friends who tell me everything, almost too much sometimes, but those are the friends I am closest with because they're opening up to me. Telling me who they are.  They tell me things that lets me get to know them just-that-much-more.  In sorority terms, it's a "bonding session."

I have friends who keep secrets as well.  They never get too in depth with their life, and I only really know them on the surface.  That is quite alright as well, but at what point do you deserve to learn a little more about a person?

I hatehatehatehate it when people say, "I can't tell you, it's a secret."  Well SECRETS DON'T MAKE FRIENDS.  What I hate even more is if someone I feel truly close to and connected with says that to me.  If you love someone, why do you want to keep secrets?  Can't you tell them anything?

I have a hard time sometimes understanding other peoples perspectives unless I've experienced it myself.  I asked a friend about this, and my friend said "People are fragile and scared to get hurt."

So is it just a game?  Or are you really  scared to get hurt?  Last time I checked I'm super fragile with a low pain tolerance, and I'm not scared to put myself out there.  So why keep things from me for the purpose of simply keeping things from me.  For the purpose of simply having a secret of your own.  If it's really a true deep secret, you wouldn't even allude to it.  "Well there was this one time, but I can't tell you because the rest is a secret."

It drives me insane.  And the more I think about it, the more offended I get.

Summer Weekend

*Updated* I've had a fairly productive weekend catching up with friends!

Friday I met up with some old friends from high school.  We haven't really hung out since high school so it was good getting together again.  We went the "The Beach" which is the club at the Grand Sierra.  It was lame.  But the dancing was fun and regardless of how busy/slow a place is, if you're with fun people that's all that matters.  While we were there we ran into some old high school boys too so it was like a massive high school reunion.  Learn to love it!

Saturday was AWESOME.  I met with an architect about my house and what we plan to do with it and I CAN'T WAIT.  I have decided to turn the top into a 1 bedroom "unit" and the bottom into a studio apartment.  Who knows when it'll all be complete, but I loved the ideas that the architect had and my buyers remorse is slowly dwindling.  After that we went to lunch, and I came back to get ready for the SUGARLAND concert!  Lina and I had kickass seats.  There's no other way to describe our seats.
5th row
Directly in the middle
Dance central
We sang so loud and danced our little booties off.  After the concert in Tahoe we decided to go back to Reno and hit up Brew Bros because we weren't nearly done dancing.  The band at Brew Brothers was great... they played my favorite "Crazy Bitch" song so now they're on my good list :-)  We stayed until about 3:30am and then finally headed home.

I don't think my feet can handle high heels for a good month after Friday/Saturday dancing.

Tuesday I am having dinner/picnic with my lovely Ginger Jenn.  Time to catch up on LIFE and DRAMA and GOSSIP.
Wednesday I am having dinner after work with Robin :-)  I love me some Robin.

Dear friends - I love you all dearly.

Did I mention my feet hurt?

25 Things

(I stole this from Anne)
  1. I’m sensitive.  I take things to heart.  I can’t change it even though I’ve tried so hard to
    .
  2. I have freckles on my lips, I think it makes me unique.
  3. I hate being labeled.  Even though I am girly, I don’t like when people create limits to what I can do.  If you say I can’t I’ll be the first to try to prove you wrong.  Even though I was in a sorority, it doesn’t mean I have no substance.  Please don’t label me until you get to know me.
  4. I lovelovelovelovelove to Volunteer.  I love to help others.  My heart hurts when I see struggling people or animals.  I want dearly to clean the birds from the oil spill (but unfortunately you have to own a hazmat suit).  I get teary-eyed when I see the SPCA commercials.  I cringe when I hear people say the word “retard.”
  5. I don’t like mushy food.  Mashed potatoes, yogurt (unless it has granola), oatmeal, etc.  I don’t care how tasty it is, I can’t handle the texture.
  6. I have no filter, especially around those I’m very comfortable around.  It may be inappropriate, and I apologize if I’ve offended anyone.
  7. I don’t like coffee, and I don’t think I ever will.
  8. When considering actions and consequences, I live by the rule, “If you’d be ashamed to tell your grandma, don’t do it.”  I like to think my grandma would be proud of the things I do, not ashamed.
  9. I love lakes
  10. I wish I were more organized.
  11. I want a pet chipmunk
  12. I love the oh-my-gosh-I-think-I-may-pee-my-pants type of laughing the most.
  13. My main goal in life is to be in a country music video.  Ambitious, I know.
  14. I found out recently that my friends think I’ll be the one to have 10 crazy little Ashley’s running around.  I think it’s funny and I LOVE that they think that of me!
  15. If I could live in the life of anyone for a day, I’d be a stripper or Russian Spy (…preferably the redhead Anna Chapman).
  16. I’ve wanted to help build an orphanage (or simply volunteer) in Africa since middle school.  It’s true.  Ask my mom.
  17. My nails are always uneven.  My pedicure is usually chipped.  I’m girly in an un-girly sort of way.
  18. I have cankles.  Don’t judge.
  19. I have 2 beautiful little brothers (Keenan and fellow-redhead-Nathan), an older brother Matt, and an older sister Tara.  I also have a step-brother Bryce, and step-sister Jen.
  20. I bought a house… and I’m having buyer’s remorse.  Can I give it back now?
  21. I feel lucky to have had my heart broken once, and to have used that experience to hopefully prevent another heartbreak with a wonderful boy.
  22. I never drank in high school.  Not once.  I was very naïve and thought alcohol was mean and scary.  Not to mention illegal and I’d probably get caught and grounded or arrested and put in prison with men who tried to taint me with their mean scary tattoos and bad breath.  I’ve learned a lot since then.
  23. I’m goofy, weird, rambunctious at times, and I show my emotions more than I’d like.
  24. In the sun my eyes almost turn green.
  25. I’m very shy at first and easily embarrassed.
