Nightmares

I'm posting this secretly hoping someone will come forward and let me know I'm not the only one
OR
They have a miraculous cure for this but...

I have nightmares.

Like... a lot of them.
Constantly.

Don't only kids get nightmares??

Last night was a bad one.  Like one of those, "I can't tell if this is real or fake" kind of nightmares.  The rest have been easy for me to wake up and justify, "That could never happen" or "This is just a dream."

But last night's woke me up at 2:30am.  And kept me up, even after bravely searching the entire house.

I'm on of those people that when I hear a noise, I'll pull the covers over my head.  Like that would really help prevent an intruder from finding me. So I made a point last night to put my big girl pants on and search the house.  The entire house.  Every closet, room, floor, garage, etc.
Everything.
Had someone actually been there who knows what I would have done, but I felt like this would put my thoughts at ease and allow me to go back to sleep.

Negative, ghostrider.

I stayed up the rest of the night terrified of what I had just dreamed about and how something like that could even enter my subconscious.

Realizing this is nightmare #4 in the past 7 days made me realize I have a problem.  How do you fix your dreams?  If I had it my way I'd dream about shopping sprees and being a mermaid (because who doesn't want to be a mermaid).

But instead my dreams are causing me to wake up in a puddle of sweat with crusty eyes (where I could tell I had been crying at one point).

So here's my next dilemma:
How do you go to work looking exhausted only to explain, "I'm really tired because I have nightmares."

Ridiculous, right?!

Hey Ashley, are you taking vitamins that contain magnesium or eating something with magnesium right before going to bed? Magnesium can cause you to have very vivid dreams if you take it too close to when you go to sleep. Hope that helps are you are dreaming of being a mermaid soon :-)

Hey I don't know if this works for nightmares but I have insomnia so I do this to help me relax and get deep, restful sleep. I take a malatonin pill (no more than 3mg) that also contains L-Theanine (helps with relaxation). I also drink milk which increases 5-HTP in the brain before bed. This all is suppose to help initiate the sleep cycle, promote relaxtion, and help you stay asleep. Again I don't know if it would work for nightmares but maybe it will help your mind relax so it doesn't have nightmares?

  5. Ohhhhh girl, I have nightmares too! Exactly to the point you're talking about, where you wake up sweating and you're convinced it's real. I've always had vivid dreams AND nightmares, and I have no idea why, as I've tried everything and then had nights where I do nothing - doesn't make a difference :(

I was finally losing so much sleep that I got an Ambien prescription for bad nights, but usually drink chamomile tea and just try to remember the doors are locked and I AM OK! (Good lord it's so hard to remember sometimes.) I hope it gets better for you soon, babe!

  6. Thanks, Amanda!! I've already tried Melatonin which sometimes makes things worse, but I'll look into the milk idea too! Thank you :-)

Oh no! I hope you have mermaid dreams soon! I have the toughest time falling asleep with every little creak in the house, gust of wind outside, squirrel running on my rooftop. You'll get better, I know you will!
